      Purpose of Position:

      Perform tasks in support of a clean, orderly kitchen, exibiting teamwork skills while also being able to work independently at times. The Food Service Worker will assist with cleaning dishes, assist in prepairing food trays to be delivered to patients and residents, cleaning the work areas and stocking kitchen and café areas .

      Essential Functions:

      • Collect and wash pots, pans, dishes, and food carts
      • Store clean dishes, silverware and kitchen utensils in assigned locations
      • Clean food preparation areas and equipment, in addition to crockery and cutlery and maintain sanitation and infection control according to established procedures
      • Operate the cash register accepting payment for food which includes accepting cash, debit and credit cards. Process fireweed cards. Balance cash reciepts and prepare for deposits.
      • Assist to complete catering requests
      • Fill and deliver department requisitions in accordance with appropriate forms and procedures
      • Serve and sell foods in the Fireweed café.
      • Keep work surfaces, walls, and floors clean and sanitized
      • Monitor eating areas in the Fireweed Café to ensure the tables are clean during the day when it’s open.
      • At the end of the shift, clean the cafeteria to prepare for service the next day
      • Assist in preparation and delivery of menu items for residents, patients and café customers; portioning food into containers, serving food and preparing drinks as requested.
      • Assist with stock and inventory of cafeteria food and service items, assist with freight on arrival, rotate stock in the refrigerators, freezers and dry storage areas.
      • Unload food and equipment deliveries and keep the storeroom organized
      • Perform other duties as assigned

      Required Knowledge:

      Employees are expected to have some teamwork skills and good communication skills. All employees should have the ability to manage their time and organize their work to ensure efficient performance. In addition, all employees should have the ability to follow policy, procedure and instructions, actively communicate with their supervisors to ensure understanding and manage their work accordingly. Finally, all employees should have the ability to understand and manage patient/customer confidentiality.

      Minimum Requirements

      Food Service Worker I (Grade 2)

      High School Diploma.

      Alaska Food Handlers Card within 30 Days

      Food Service Worker II (Grade 3)

      All Food Service Worker I requirements

      90 Days in a working Kitchen

      Food Service Worker III (Grade 4)

      All Food Service Worker II requirements

      2 Years in a Hospital Kitchen

      ServSafe Certification

      Physical Requirements:

      ∙Use hands and arms to operate food service equipment

      ∙Sit less than half the workday

      ∙Stand and/or walk more than half the workday

      ∙Bend, stretch, twist, crouch and/or reach

      ∙Use hands and arms for repetitive motion tasks consistently for more than one hour at a time

      ∙Lift or carry unaided 25 to 50 pounds

      ∙Push or pull using up to moderate force

      ∙See and hear with normal acuity
