      Purpose of Position:

      Provide skilled maintenance and complex repair work on fleet vehicles, the physical plant, hospital, campus grounds, village clinics, and limited medical and non-medical equipment.

      Essential Functions:

      • Perform maintenance, preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs on cars, trucks, and off-road equipment, aerial lift equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded and customer focused manner to maximize the safety, productivity, and life of the unit.
      • Inspect, maintain and repair aerial lift equipment to preserve the safety and reliability of the unit.
      • Maintains a complete inventory system through recording of all expenditures of each vehicle, maintenance equipment, fuel, repair parts, supplies, etc.
      • Examines reports for accuracy on each vehicle and piece of equipment repaired; writes reports on vehicles and equipment repaired. Makes monthly report to the Facility Director.
      • Perform high level preventive and corrective maintenance on physical plant equipment such as HVAC systems, electrical and plumbing systems, high and low pressure oil fired water and steam boilers and water heating systems . Test equipment using safety analyzer, volt meters, ohm meters, amp meters and special hand tools. Provide installation and repair services on complex and major systems throughout the facility as indicated by appropriate logs and work orders.
      • Inspect, calibrate, adjust, clean and lubrication mechanical and electrical controls, valves, gauges, timing devices and meters. Report equipment and structural problems beyond own skill level, needed equipment or supplies to immediate supervisor.
      • Train and mentor junior level engineers and technicians on complex preventive maintenance and repair work
      • Travel to village clinics to perform routine maintenance on equipment, troubleshoot and coordinate solutions between the Nome-based operations and the villages
      • Perform other duties as assigned

      Required Knowledge:

      • Knowledge of NFPA, Plumbing, Electrical , OSHA, etc. codes
      • Familiarity with Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, etc.
      • Leading Automobile Manufacturer’s recommendations

      Must have valid AK Driver’s license and at least 21 years old

      Must have an acceptable driving record without any major violations or no more than two minor violations in the last three years.

      Physical Requirements:

      • Use hands and arms to operate office or clinical equipment
      • Stand and/or walk more than half the workday
      • Bend, stretch, twist, crouch and/or reach
      • Use hands and arms for repetitive motion tasks consistently for more than one hour at a time
      • Lift or carry unaided 25 to 50 pounds
      • Push or pull using with more than moderate force
      • See and hear with normal acuity

      Working Conditions:

      • Work is conducted in a standard warehouse environment.
      • Minimal travel is required (less than 25% of the time).
      • Travel is done via large aircraft.
      • Travel is done via small (less than 16 passenger) aircraft.
      • Travel is done using snow mobiles, All Terrain Vehicles or boat.
      • Work may be conducted outside in inclement weather conditions.
